Motivation

It starts with motivation. There must be a reason to pick up your camera. Maybe it’s the way the light wraps around her face, or how it shatters through tree leaves. A desire to capture moments in time, the agony across the face of an athlete failing to get the ball past the goalie. Or it could be building a shot so that something truly ugly becomes beautiful, like broken glass and rust overtaken by vines.

I feel we, as humans, are attracted to photography. There’s something recognizable in every photo, because it is documenting our world. Almost everyone appreciates and observes art in all forms, but photos remain the king of all media. Photos can be useful, purely a visual representation of data, or proof that something happened. Photos can also be beautiful, the result of bending light to the photographer’s will to capture true beauty. It can also be both: Macro Photography, Landscape and Architectural Photography all share the beauty of things we may never see in person, or at least presents in a manner we wouldn’t expect. And it amazes me that abstract art is possible with a device that can only capture images that exist.

Some of you wish to create. And you have chosen to use a camera to create. This blog is for you.

I am a photographer who has been capturing moments in time for over 30 years. I learned on film, but now shoot primarily digital. I have an eclectic photography style, and experiment in all aspects of photography. But I find my joy photographing landscapes, architecture, and small details. I believe everything is beautiful with the right perspective (and some really good lighting). I'm here to share my wisdom and experience. Aside from photography, I am a Professional Landscape Architect and Lighting Designer. I also love to listen to, create, and play music.
